Le verbe 'Être' et les Salutations

The auxiliary verb 'être' (to be) is the foundation of French grammar. It is highly irregular: je suis, tu es, il/elle/on est, nous sommes, vous êtes, ils/elles sont. Use 'être' to indicate identity, nationality, profession, and state of being. Always use 'vous êtes' for polite/formal interactions. Combine with basic greetings like 'Bonjour' and self-introductions like 'Je m'appelle'.
